The Acid House – Irvine Welsh
“The most gifted of writers working in Britain today” ???
Collectively, Vincent Street Book Club thinks perhaps not.
Rank: 3/5
What some liked:
The characterization. The street beat, drug settings – real and unglorifying. Unpretentious. The innocence of some of the characters despite who they associate with and what they do. Infusion with sci-fi.
What some didn’t like:
The content – drugs, sex, poverty-get-you-down, love – annoying how the characters and writer didn’t delve into anything else. Characters are selfish, self-pleasing.
Attendees: Alex, Amelia, Ryan, Colin, Dale, Grace, awesome cheese platter
Absent: Danielle, Shan, Ben, Todd, Erin, Paul
This Months Book: The Grapes of Wrath – Steinbeck (Grace)
